There have been numerous references to Ted Danson's previous/best-known series, Cin cin (1982). Co-stars George Wendt, Rhea Perlman, and Kelsey Grammer all appeared on "Becker" in ironic subtexts, reversing the status quo on "Cheers". Wendt played the barman to Danson's character - on Cin cin (1982), Danson played the barman to Wendt's character. Grammer played an alcoholic friend of Danson's Harvard-graduate doctor - on Cin cin (1982) and Frasier (1993), Danson played an ex-alcoholic and Grammer played the Harvard-graduate doctor. Rhea Perlman appeared as a therapist with an optimistic view on life, with Danson as the misanthropic and mean-spirited character - on Cin cin (1982), Danson played the usually cheery and good-humored character and Perlman was the one loudly unhappy with her life. Also, on "Becker", the character of Margaret's husband, Lewis, is never seen, a gag in the tradition of Cin cin (1982), in which Norm's wife, Vera, was never seen, and Frasier (1993), in which Niles' wife, Maris, was never seen.
