Director Ilya Naishuller and writer Derek Kolstad incorporated a lot of elements of realism into the action scenes. The Firearms Coordinator on the film also trains real police and military on advanced shooting skills, and he and Bob Odenkirk spent hours discussing the physiological and psychological effects of sudden incident stress on the human body. The film depicts many of those, such as time seems to slow down (tachypsychia effect), loss of hearing (auditory exclusion) and tunnel vision, where eyesight is sharply focused on a threat, at the cost of loss of peripheral vision. This is why it is entirely conceivable that one could stare down the barrel of a revolver and see that all the chambers are empty.
