The film's plot, of a detective searching for his stolen service weapon, directly resembles the narrative of Akira Kurosawa's 1949 film Stray Dog. Instead of a dual-protagonist vehicle, it saw Toshiro Mifune plunge the depths of the Tokyo underworld to mark the thief and retrieve the weapon.
