Morrie briefly mentions the Boston College basketball point-shaving scheme, in which players would conspire to score fewer points in a game that they were likely to win (thus ensuring that gamblers who bet against the point spread would win big). Ed McDonald, the US attorney who plays himself in GoodFellas, was a player on the freshman team at Boston College several years before the scandal. When the real Henry Hill was questioned about the scheme, McDonald was startled to realize that for Hill the scheme was just another way to make money, no different than his other crimes. Enraged, McDonald had to be restrained from attacking Hill. In 2014 ESPN produced Playing For The Mob, a documentary about the scandal narrated by Ray Liotta.
