When Michael Dorsey is auditioning in the theater in the beginning of the movie and has to ask the director and producer if they are paying attention, he is reciting lines from "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial," a play that was written by Herman Wouk based on his own novel "The Caine Mutiny," which also became a successful movie in 1954 but without the dialog that Michael recited.
