The film introduces a film version of the Flying Graysons, Robin's family. The characters were introduced as trapeze artists in Detective Comics #38 (April, 1940), created by the writer Bill Finger and the artists Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. Their murder by crime boss Tony Zucco is what inspired Robin/Dick Grayson to become a superhero. Like Batman himself, Robin belonged to a tradition of heroes who were inspired to avenge their dead loved ones.
