Despite being accused of more than 12 murders and suspected the number to be around 30, Charles has been convicted of only 2 murders that he committed while in Nepal. Herman Knippenberg helped Nepal Police with the research files and photos that he collected over his research and findings that he had kept for more than two decades. Charles served 19 years of his 20 year sentence in Nepal. He was released and deported to France immediately on 23 December, 2022 based on his age and health reasons.
