According to Sir Ridley Scott, he was adamant to show the Prometheus and its science crew with appropriately advanced 21st century technology, such as slimmed-down space suits, holographic displays and video screens inside full spherical helmets. These helmets were inspired by a Steve Jobs story where he built an office entirely out of industrial-strength glass: "If I'm in 2083 and I'm going into space, I want something where I have 360 vision. By then, glass will be light and you won't be able to break it with a bullet." In behind-the screens documentaries, Scott acknowledged that this created an obvious discrepancy with the lower state of technology seen in Alien (1979), which he explained with the fact that the Nostromo crew were blue collar employees who had to work with a decades-old ship, obsolete machines and hand-me-down bulky space suits.
