Due to her successful two episodes written for the series Blake's 7 (1978), science fiction/fantasy writer Tanith Lee was asked by the BBC to submit story ideas for the series during Peter Davison's tenure as the Fifth Doctor. Lee's first story submission was rejected as it was similar to a recently produced story (the writer hadn't followed the series for a while). She submitted another story in exchange, which they plainly did not like.
