Although the movie spawned a late sequel in Hannibal (2001), a more direct continuation of the story was done in the TV series Clarice (2021). It picks up shortly after the end of this movie, showing Clarice's difficulties in getting accepted by her new FBI team members, as well as her and Catherine Martin having to deal with their post-Buffalo Bill trauma. The series differs from established continuity in a few ways: in the movie, Clarice' mother died when she was very young, whereas in the series, her mother is still alive; however, she sent her off to her cousin anyway following the death of her father. Paul Krendler is also in the series, but instead of being an assistant Attorney General, he is a much older man working with the FBI; in Hannibal, Clarice and Paul discuss an affair which they had while Paul was married, but in the series, Paul is recently divorced.
