Caroline Miller was written out of the show after season 2, because Catherine Lloyd Burns declined to come back. Her personality was going to take a turn for the worse after the events of "High School Play". In season 3, Caroline would've gotten revenge on her students for nearly endangering her and her newborn child's lives with the reckless prank and become more mean-spirited. Not wanting to play a bad character, Catherine Lloyd Burns left the show and Caroline was explained to have simply taken maternity leave. Lionel Herkabee (Chris Eigeman) was written into the show as her replacement, and ironically, Herkabee was intended to be a good-natured character who would've reported Miller's behavior to the principal.
