At a press conference in Hong Kong on December 2, 1999 not long after this film's release, Pierce Brosnan defended Denise Richards performance as Dr. Christmas Jones. He stated the criticism leveled at her was misguided and missed the point. This is because Christmas Jones was meant to be a very specific, vividly unconventional scientist who is not anyone's idea of a typical nuclear physicist - and consequently has a chip on her shoulder because of the treatment she gets - especially from men. Roger Ebert clearly got this, and called Richards "first rate" as Jones. The Hong Kong press conference wherein Brosnan defends Richards can be found in the Special Features area of this film's Blu Ray release.
