The series has been widely criticized for its message of "biology vs. technology" being perceived as ham-fisted. Story editor Robert N. Skir claims that this was deliberate, and the actual message of the show is that all forms of extremism are bad, and that a balance must be found - both Optimus Primal (biology) and Megatron (technology) are wrong in their positions, but Optimus realizes his mistake at the beginning of the second season.
