The movie has a surprising amount of similarities with Matrix (1999): both feature a character who learns that the reality they live in is a facade, and is in fact invisibly controlled by an outside force; there is a small underground group of fighters battling the invisible oppressors; the protagonist is dressed in a long trenchcoat, and the action leans heavily on martial arts. The hostage scene around 1h 12 mins even features a bullet-dodging moment similar to The Matrix' famous bullet-time scenes. All these similarities are coincidental though, since Blade was released a year before The Matrix, and The Matrix had been written, planned and storyboarded long before Blade was released.
