Much to production designer Seth Reed's "heartbreak", the Fortress of Solitude set used in the first season was torn down after production moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver. Reed explained that "it's heartbreaking because you put a lot of care into something and it's all for the sake of capturing it on film".
