The Mirisch brothers produced this film through Moulin Productions, and distributed the film through Warner Bros., who would have distribution rights to the film through 1963. Due to financial problems, the brothers sold the film's underlying rights to United Artists, which would soon become the owner of the pre-1950 WB library after it purchased Associated Artists Productions (a.a.p.). UA honored WB's original contract until it expired in 1963, after which it took over the rights fully. That same year, the Mirisch brothers sold their later company to UA, which had agreed to distribute their product beginning in 1957.
