The Last Engineer who appears in the climatic scene is different in appearance than the Engineer who sacrifices himself in the beginning of the movie. Not only is he dressed in different clothing (an armored spacesuit with a very H.R. Giger-like design) but also has gill-like growths on his neck. The Sacrifice Engineer required almost full body make up that took 7 hours to apply; due to the spacesuit, it took 'only' 5 hours to transform Ian Whyte into the Last Engineer.
