Robert Cummings was often absent from the set as he was finishing work on Frutto acerbo (1942) at Paramount. This forced de Havilland to deliver her lines to a stand-in. Charles Coburn also had trouble with his lines, causing many re-takes. This added to de Havilland's stress, causing her to begin leaving the set early and arriving late.
