The setting of the film is the village of Arkham. Arkham, Massachusetts was a fictional city, created by H. P. Lovecraft and used as a setting for several of his stories, from 1920 to 1935. Arkham was depicted as a college town in Lovecraft's stories, home to Miskatonic University.
