Anne Reid, who played Valerie Barlow from 1961-1971, and Thelma Barlow, who played Mavis Wilton from 1971-1997, both went on to co-star in Victoria Wood's sitcom Dinnerladies (1998-2000). Shobna Gulati, Andrew Dunn, Maxine Peake, and Sue Cleaver appeared alongside them in the latter, and all would go on to appear in this show.
