The title 'Ghostbusters' was already taken by a company that had made the TV series The Ghost Busters (1975), and a long legal process ensued before the makers secured the rights. Initial shooting required that two takes had to be filmed of every scene that featured the title: one with 'Ghostbusters', and one with the alternative title, 'Ghostbreakers', including the scenes where the sign is being put up outside the fire house, and where the crowd is chanting to their heroes. Ultimately, the filmmakers saw this as too much work, and settled on their first choice, hoping the title would be cleared in time. Fortunately, it did: head of Columbia Pictures Frank Price, who had greenlit the movie, left the company due to disagreements with its parent firm, the Coca Cola Company. He then became head of Universal Pictures, which happened to own the rights to The Ghost Busters (1975); in his new capacity, an agreement over the title was quickly arranged.
