Richter, played by Michael Ironside, has both his arms ripped off. In another film by Paul Verhoeven, Starship Troopers - Fanteria dello spazio (1997), Ironside's character Lieutenant Raczak is already missing his left arm at the elbow (but gets a robotic one) and has both his legs bitten off by a tanker bug.
