The First Doctor, William Hartnell, had many stories which were set in a historical context as part of the series' educational remit. However, these were mostly phased out during the Patrick Troughton era as producer Innes Lloyd didn't like them and felt they didn't perform well in the ratings. The Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, only had one historical story in his five seasons on the series, which was Doctor Who: The Time Warrior: Part One (1973), a story set in England during the Middle Ages.
