Director Martin Koolhoven had already met Dutch rapper 'Yes-r' a year before when he did a casting for his film Het schnitzelparadijs (2005). He saw the talent of the young Morrocan, but thought it was a bit to early for 'Yes-r'. A year later he called him back to give him the lead in his new production.
