The opening scene, in which Leatherface creates his new flesh mask, is a homage to Nightmare - Dal profondo della notte (1984). Freddy is seen creating his razor-blade glove in the opening scene of NOES. This is due to New Line Cinema making TCM III after obtaining the rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre title and characters.
