Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Michael Caine and Dudley Moore were considered for the role of Doug. Moore declined the role because he was busy filming Arthur 2: On The Rocks (1988). Caine turned down the role due to scheduling conflicts with Dirty Rotten Scroundrels (1988).
