UK podcast The Sandler Pit considered Mr. Deeds one of Sandler's more contentious offerings, with Luke Terry enjoying the film and Luke Thomas finding it boring and crass. The film narrowly avoided being thrown in their dreaded 'Sandler Pit' with a compromise, where it was thrown in the dungeon of 'The Sandler Castle' along with the equally divisive Punch Drunk Love to give it time to "think about its crimes".
