Robin Wright questioned Fincher after seeing an early cut of the film as to why her character had to be "so shrewish" towards Mikael during the scene where she catches him packing up his belongings at the office. "It seemed to me like it's a very realistic portrayal of a relationship between people who are partners. It's not a male/female thing to me."
