When Poseidon first emerges out of the water and changes into human form he is in Coney Island, Brooklyn. You can see the amusement rides in the background. When he meets his brother Zeus he is in Manhattan, a totally different island in NYC. That would mean he had to walk across Brooklyn, cross either the East River or Hudson River, and then walk approximately 5 miles from the southern tip of Manhattan to the Empire State Building. It would have been quicker to just emerge from the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan.
