Smart Beavis and Smart Butt-Head are visually based on Uatu the Watcher from Marvel Comics. Additionally, the portals seen in the film feature a design aesthetic known as "Kirby Crackle," a style of visually rendering energy pioneered by comic book artist Jack Kirby. Kirby was co-creator of Uatu the Watcher.
