When Dame Elizabeth Taylor was taken seriously ill in London during the original shooting schedule, Dame Joan Collins, who was under contract to Fox, received a telegram from Fox Studios stating that due to the severity of the illness, to make herself available to replace her should Taylor die. Collins was incensed and disgusted at the callous way it was worded and the total lack of humanity in the message and said so to the director, made even worse by the fact she personally knew Taylor. Fortunately, Taylor recovered and the issue became a moot point.
