There has been some controversy over the film's DVD release in the early 2000s. Due to the quality of the transfer, the film's DVD was called "appallingly bad" and "sloppy". The DVD's picture quality had excessive grain, blur, and muted colors. It was speculated that this was taken from the Laserdisc edition of the film. The controversy resulted in calls for restoration.
