In the novel, Paul Atriedes adopts 'Muad'Dib' as his Fremen name after encountering a small desert mouse in the open desert. However, the Muad'Dib desert mouse doesn't appear in the movie and instead the Maud'Dib is a mouse shadow on Arrakis's second moon.
