Bruce destroys most of the laboratory in which he works during his first Hulk-Out. When he lifts the gammasphere onto his back and shoulders, the Hulk poses briefly like the Greek mythological figure Atlas, who holds the sphere of the sky in the same way. The moment serves as a nod to the location name of the actual gammasphere, which exists in real-life, in A.T.L.A.S. (Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator) at Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, Illinois. Despite its name, the actual gammasphere has no gamma-generating capabilities.
