Due to the Covid-19 outbreak of 2020, this film ended up being simultaneously released theatrically and on premium pay per view (PPV) platforms in the U.S. However, after complaints from foreign cinema chains and an industry backlash against Disney especially for bypassing cinemas with their live action Mulan (2020) remake (which went straight to premium PPV), Warner Bros, who handled the foreign sales, were reluctant to follow the U.S. example and announced the film would not be getting the simultaneous PPV release in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Australia as well as many other countries.
