In The Big Bang Theory: The Nerdvana Annihilation (2008) the boys are trying to figure out how to move the life size time machine up to the apartment. They discuss using the elevator which has been broken for two years. Howard states he has a masters degree in engineering and proceeds to push the elevator button then states "Yeah that's broken." Howard was present when the elevator was destroyed by fuel made by Leonard for Howard's rocket in a flash back episode later in the series.
