Although the film depicts the Winter Hill Gang as fighting the Italian Mob of North Boston (Patriarca Crime Family), the reality was there was internal strife within the Patriarca Family. While the Winter Hill Gang was at war with the Angiulo faction of the Patriarca Family, the gang did have alliances with other figures within the Italian Mob.
