During the first season, the series predominantly focused on the relationship between roommates Denise Huxtable and Maggie Lauten who were paired as a white-black roommate couple. This premise was dropped for the second season, after both actresses (Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei) left the show. Thereafter, the main character clash on the show shifted to the relationship between characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
