Shortly after making the film, Peter Sellers suffered a massive heart attack that briefly left him clinically dead. The experience changed him profoundly and he became less dedicated to his craft and took on parts that were much less exacting than the three he played in Il dottor Stranamore - Ovvero: come ho imparato a non preoccuparmi e ad amare la bomba (1964).
