ER had a classier vibe than it's NBC Must See TV Thursday Night 10pm predecessor LA Law, which tended to traffic in tawdry sexcapades and trashy soap opera antics. Examples: Rox and Arnie have sex in Arnie's office and wind up crashing through the floor and landing in a business boardroom meeting in a room below. Or Stuart and Anne talk at length in several episodes about the Venus Flytrap, Stuart's new sex maneuver that he's educating Anne about. Or Michael and Grace go to a nudist colony and Grace disrobes so she can join the proceedings. Or Brackman's brother, a marriage counselor, pretends to console him and his warring wife, just so he can grab Mrs. Brackman's backside. And so on. Conversely ER, while it was blunt in it's portrayal of sexually active adults, rarely exploited this and sensationalized it to the point LA Law did. Mostly ER just showed loving couples being monogamous and respectful of each other.
