In the Godfather, Vito Corleone played by the legend Marlon Brando picked up a cat but it was actually a stray and was not supposed to be in the film. Director Francis Ford Coppola found the cat roaming in the studio lot of Paramount and he decided to put the cat in one of the scenes. It was never in the script or anywhere, to include the cat but it was later included by Coppola. The only downside, though, was that the cat was purring so loudly that you could not hear the actors' dialogues, especially Brando's. His lines had to be looped or basically dubbed. Otherwise, the cat was both a great and a subtle addition to the scene. It has really good symbolism attached to it. At first, Corleone happily plays with the cat and also listens to its requests and offers and gives everything to the cat but then there comes a point when all the fun is over.... This is compared to what he does with the human beings around him. Don Vito Corleone is someone who has POWER.
