The reason why the character designs were altered in season 2 was because Disney wanted the show to be action heavy and less comedic. Resulting in the season 1's directior, Christian Roman being replaced who later went to Pixar as a story artist for many of their movies. Jeff Goode considers the season 2 designs to be the real character designs rather than the first season.
