Jack L. Warner objected to paying royalties for the creation of series. Maverick: Point Blank (1957) was scripted to be the pilot but at the direction of Executive Producer William T. Orr creator Roy Huggins did a new pilot script Maverick: War of the Silver Kings (1957) based on a 1935 non-fiction account of feuding mine owners in Butte Montana during the 19th century "War of the Copper Kings", an existing property owned by the studio, to satisfy Warner's dictates. Huggins wouldn't get an onscreen credit as creator until "Maverick (1994)."
