Marty McFly and Marty McFly, Jr. both wear a multicolored cap, a plausible nod to the long-running British science fiction series Doctor Who (1963). In that series, the sixth incarnation of the show's title character The Doctor (Colin Baker) an extra-terrestrial time traveler wore a multicolored jacket. Doctor Who (1963) was canceled the same year as this film's release.
