When filming began again after months of lockdown due to COVID-19 and Robert Pattinson tested positive after only one day back on set, director Matt Reeves didn't want to risk getting COVID, too, and transformed himself on set into "a burrito", wearing a mask, gloves, a head covering and scuba diving goggles. Reeves stated, "You couldn't see my face, and this is the way the actors saw me for the rest of the movie. I was like this ridiculous, hermetically sealed creature. It was absurd."
