Robert Forster was originally cast as Sheriff Harry S. Truman, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. David Lynch later cast him in Mulholland Drive (2001) and Twin Peaks: il ritorno (2017). In the latter, he replaced Michael Ontkean as Frank Truman, Harry's brother.
