On Transformers (1984), Soundwave's distinctive voice was created by Frank Welker using his deep ominous Doctor Claw voice from L'ispettore Gadget (1983), and then filtering the voice through a vocoder. In this film, Soundwave's voice was not treated with a vocoder.
