Harrison Ford personally picked out Anne Heche to be his co-star over much greater stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan and Uma Thurman. Had Ryan been chosen, this would have been the second time she would have played a character involved with a pilot. The first was Top Gun (1986).
