When Ralph delivers his monologue about the death of Freddie Prinze Sr., he recalls coming home from school on a January day when "it was snowing like crazy". The date he is referring to is Friday, January 28, 1977. One of the worst blizzards in history hit Buffalo, New York on the morning of Friday, January 28, 1977 at 11:30 am EST, where 5 hours previously at 3:30 am PST on that same Friday morning of January 28, Prinze committed suicide in his hotel room in Beverly Hills, California. The winter back East was so bad that it made the cover of Time Magazine ("The Big Freeze") and prompted then newly-elected President Jimmy Carter to declare a snowstorm a federal disaster, the first and last time a sitting American President would ever do so. Even more eerie was that Prinze had recently performed at Carter's Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. a week before he killed himself.
