Many native speakers of Korean such as comedian Youngmi Mayer as well as Korean interpreters voiced online criticism about the poor translation of the show's Korean dialogue into other languages. Some pointed out that many subtle cultural nuances were lost, for example because differences in formal and informal use of language between contestants of different social standing, the use of class-specific profanity and the fact that Sae-byeok hides her North-Korean accent for the South-Koreans were almost completely omitted from the subtitles. Since most other subtitles aren't directly translated from Korean but are based on the English ones (a common practice to save time and money), the errors were automatically copied into other languages as well.
